Barbados is a small island located in the C
aribbean Sea, which makes it as perfect as it can get. The island was named “Los Babados” from the Bearded Fig Trees that were found all over the island when it was first discovered by the Portuguese in 1536. The island is approximately 166 square miles and has a population of approximately 287,000.
The island, known for its beaches, food and drink, cultural events, and world-class tourist attractions was once a British Colony that exported rum and sugar. Have no fear, they still make some of the best rums in the world since 1703. As one of the biggest tourist destinations in the Caribbean, Barbados has a dual personality. On the north and east coasts of the island which is fed by the Atlantic Ocean, you can find rugged cliffs and rough waters, perfect for those wanting to catch some waves in the deep surf. Over on the west and south coasts of the island, the Caribbean Sea creates a slightly calmer effect. The water is warm and so clear that you can still see the wrinkles on your toes when the water is waist-high. The sand is white and clean, just inviting you to relax with a rum punch in your hand. While on the water you can enjoy, short island cruises on The Jolly Roger Pirate Ship, snorkeling and scuba diving, glass-bottom boats, and even a submarine adventure.
As one of the most romantic adventures, Barbados has so much more to offer than its beaches. The warm nights create an atmosphere for some of the best culinary creations and an active nightlife. One of the things that the island is known for is "The Crop Over Carnival" or "Kadooment" as the “Bajans” call it. It's a time when the whole island comes together and celebrates an old tradition with parades in the streets and festivals.
The people of Barbados are friendly and you will always be greeted with a smile.
